Structure Fire on Washington St. 3/19/11

On Saturday, at approx. 3:15pm, the Belton Fire Dept. responded to a reported structure fire at 112 Washington St.  Within minutes units were on scene and found a one story residential with heavy smoke and fire showing.  Firefighters advanced two lines into the structure to begin a coordinated search and fire attack.  Interior crews were aided by vertical ventilation and the fire was knocked down quickly.  A rapid search of the structure proved negative and the overhaul process began.  The occupants of the home escaped without injury after it appeared a cooking accident led to the fire. Belton Fire was assisted by manpower from Cheddar and Friendship Fire Depts.  Honea Path and Williamston also responded to establish a Rapid Intervention Team.  The fire was contained to two rooms but there was extensive smoke damage throughout.  The Red Cross was called in to assist the residents.
