BFD Training--9/12/11

On Monday September 12, Belton firefighter met for regular training and truck company skills and rescue was the topic.  Firefighters practiced throwing ground ladders by performing a one man 14ft. and 24ft. ladder raise as well as two man 24ft. raise.   BFD members also go to practice a new firefighter removal technique called the "Corkscrew Lower."  This is accomplished by using a section of rope attached to a suitable anchor (handrail in this case) in the top of a stairwell.  The firefighter's SCBA is then converted into a makeshift harness and the rope is attached to it.  This techniques allows the downed firefighter to be lowered down stairs more quickly than carrying him.  Just another tool for the toolbox guys.
