Shortly after 9am on Saturday September 16th Belton firefighters received a call for a possible structure fire at the old Abney Mill on Smythe St. Engine 1, Engine 2 and Car 1 responded and found smoke issuing from the structure. Cheddar and Rock Springs also responded as well as Honea Path and Williamston RIT. After entering, crews found an approx. 3x3 section of floor burning. The fire was quickly knocked down and saws were used to cut away all burned material. It was unclear how the fire started as this was one of several fires units have responded to over the last few years.
