BFD Welcomes New Police Chief
Tommy
Clamp was sworn in Monday, October 29, as the new police chief of
Belton. The ceremony, presided over by Mayor Rufus Callaham, was held at 7 a.m.
to allow a large number of police officers, city officials and family members
to attend. Clamp replaces retired chief David Dockins, who had held the job for
more than 25 years. Dockins will remain as a consultant for a short time. Clamp
was hired as a dispatcher in Belton in 1989 by Dockins. He has spent
his life in law enforcement, leaving behind a job as sergeant in charge of the
evidence division for the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office. Members of Belton Fire look forward to working with Chief Clamp and will strive to ensure the relationship between Police and Fire continues to strengthen.
